Il saggio indaga la particolare dimensione del tempo che assume il Diario autunnale alla fine dei Canti di Castelvecchio, dopo che la raccolta sembra ormai chiusa. Quest’ultima sezione, aggiunta da Pascoli in seguito alla prima edizione, mostra un aspetto del tutto nuovo soprattutto se riletta a seguito del Ritorno a San Mauro. Non si tratta più del tempo quasi ciclico della raccolta né del recupero memoriale del Ritorno. Compare un tempo piatto, a una sola dimensione, dove pochissimi elementi creano atmosfere sospese e quasi metafisiche che fanno pensare alla pittura di Morandi.

«The autumn diary»: The last «time» of the Canti di Castelvecchio
This paper explores the subject of time in the last section of Canti di Castelvecchio, Diario autunnale. This last section, which Pascoli added after publishing the first edition, shows a different take on the subject of time, especially if red after the one which used to close the book, Ritorno a San Mauro. After this addition, time can’t be red as the cyclical time of gathering anymore. Neither can’t it be interpreted as a space where memory can be retrieved, as in the Ritorno. In Diario autunnale emerges a monodimensional time, where few elements create suspended and metaphysical atmospheres that recall Morandi’s art.
