L’articolo cercherà di guidare il lettore attraverso gli indicatori chiave più utilizzati (e anche abusati) sullo stato della ricerca in Italia. Durante lo svolgimento di questo compito si cercherà anche di rispondere a domande comuni come quali paesi investono di più nella ricerca, quanto si spende in Italia e come viene finanziata la ricerca. I risultati presentati confermano le idee comuni sulla necessità di un aumento dei finanziamenti per stare al passo con i paesi europei più virtuosi e presentano aspetti sorprendenti sul campo della ricerca nel nostro Paese.

The article will try to guide the reader through the most used (and also abused) key indicators about the status of research in Italy. While performing this task it will be also try to answer to common questions as what countries invest more in research, how much is spent in Italy and how is research funded. The results presented confirm the common ideas about the need for a rise in funding to keep the pace with the more virtuous European countries and present surprising aspects about the research field in our country.
