English Women Travellers on the Tracks of Matilda
During the fin de siècle Matilda found her two English biographers and she became a sort of “role model” for many active, independent and educated women. Some travelled to Italy, attracted by its Medieval towns, by the lure of Dante’s poetry, by the example of an outstanding woman, the great Countess Matilda.
