Among history, politics, individualism, concrete facts, perception and awareness of the crisis, the moral superiority of Ammianus Marcellinus becomes a witness to an era whose evils are enumerated with acute suffering and with care. In the proposed analysis the historical-political judgments of Ammianus Marcellinus are taken into consideration in relation to the elements connected with otium, voluptas and lustrum. The aim is to highlight some key features of representation of the nobilitas and of some characters gravitating in the courts of Constantius and Valentinian.
