In Cratin. (Odyss.) fr. 150,2 K.-A., Polyphemus threatens that he will cook Odysseus and his crew.Athenaeus, his Epitome and Pollux transmit this line in three different versions; in addition, somemodern scholars also have emended it. This paper argues for the Epitome’s text, since its paraepicand paratragic implications correspond to the refined and elegant style of comic-Polyphemus.
