This article interprets the unusual compound λυκαιχμίαις in Alcaeus 130b,10 V as referringto a metaphorical battle between Alcaeus and a wolf-like tyrant, examining wolf imagery inarchaic poetry, fables, and philosophy to demonstrate the violent and deceptive qualities thatlink wolves with tyrants in ancient Greek thought.
