Tacitus explains that Augustus, at the end of his live, talked about who could be worthy
for his position and who would try to reach it if the chance was given. Four senators
were mentioned in that conversation: Marcus Lepidus, Asinius Gallus, Lucius Arruntius
and Cnaeus Piso. Not long ago, their cursus honorum had only one post that linked them
all, the ordinarius consulate. Now, it is possible to add a second one, the governorship
of the Hispania citerior. In this article we look at the cursus of this four senators and
judge the prestige this governorship had in the Julio-Claudian period.
