Questo scritto non ha lo scopo di aggiungere nuove informazioni sulla famiglia Ca-nossa quanto piuttosto, attraverso i pochi documenti altomedievali superstiti e gli studi pubblica-ti, ricostruire l’habitat della bassa Pianura Padana in cui Bonifacio di Canossa si trovò a muoversi quando, lasciata l’Emilia per mire espansionistiche e superato il corso del Po, entrò nel territorio cremonese, insediandosi a Piadena. Sono poi presi in esame i tracciati di due differenti chiese dalla cronologia ancora discussa: la prima databile tra la fine del X-inizio XI secolo e la seconda tra la seconda metà del 1100 e la fine del secolo. Piadena: an important and enigmatic site between Brescia, Cremona and Mantua from the Early Ages to the 12th centuryThe paper is not intended to add new information about the Canossa family but rather, through the few surviving high-medieval documents and published studies, to reconstruct the envi-ronment of the lower Po Valley in which Bonifacio of Canossa operated when, leaving Emilia to expand his power and crossing the Po river, he moved into the territory of Cremona, settling in Piadena. I then examine the history of two different churches whose chronology is still under discussion: the first dat-ed between the end of the 10th cent and the beginning of the 11ith century and the second between the second half and the end of the 12th century.
