Scopo di questo articolo è cercare di ricostruire l’armamento dell’esercito ebraico che prese parte alla battaglia di Asdod intorno al 147 a. C. L’analisi delle origini guerrigliere dell’esercito ebraico e di alcuni episodi chiave della battaglia sembra mettere in luce l’effettiva possibilità che gli Ebrei non abbiano adottato schemi tattici e armamento ispirati alla falange di tipo macedone, ma abbiano creato una fanteria pesante armata di scudi grandi e spade, in grado di proteggersi con efficacia dal tiro degli arcieri a cavallo nemici e di manovrare agilmente sul campo di battaglia. This article is an attempt to reconstruct the armament of the Jewish army that fought at the battle of Asdod in 147 B. C. From the analysis of the guerrilla origins of the Jewish army and some crucial episodes of the battle, it emerges the effective possibility that the Jews didn’t adopt army and tactics inspired by the Macedonian phalanx, but that they created a heavy infantry, equipped with big shields and swords, able to protect itself from the shooting of the cavalry – archers and to manoeuvre dexterously on the battlefield.
