The scenes of Pandora’s dressing in Hesiod’s Theogony and Works and Days, when compared with scenes involving Hera in Il. XIV 169-186 and Aphrodite in H. Hom. Ven. 60-65, show an underlying pattern, and the presence of the theme of seduction. Further analysis of the contexts in which dressing elements are attested reveals that they have a preparatory function, parallel to that of the hero’s arming scenes.
