The fermano Equitius: a case of “sebastianism” in Republican Rome
This paper attempts to analyze the role played by a controversial personage, Equitius, the alleged son of Tiberius Gracchus, as a case of “sebastianism” in critical circumstances of the Roman res publica in which it seemed that the prevailing system had entered into crisis. which led to a long period of political violence. Historical sources that take on new significance and thus reveal much more information about the events they narrate are reexamined from this point of view.
