This paper aims to show through a cross-country comparative analysis if, and to what extent, the inability to afford paying for one week annual holiday away from home in european countries, is associated with specifi c household socioeconomic characteristics. Such evidence would help central and local governments to defi ne those economic and social goals which should be given more attention in social policies on tourism.
