Torino 2015, European Capital of Sport: an exercise in economic evaluation.
In 2012 Turin was awarded the title of European Capital of Sport 2015 and planned a rich program of some 800 events. An
economic impact analysis has been developed to measure economic effects of 80 sport events. Main findings were that direct
economic effects (additional local demand) coming from the events is in the magnitude of 18.6-20.8 million euros, in front of
a net local public expenditure of 0.604 million euros, showing a substantial lever effect.
